Fatigue? Lassitude? Low Stamina? Maybe you need more iron supplementation. These symptoms can often be remedied by what in Western Herbalism and TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) is known as blood building. Blood influences: hair, skin, nails, organs (esp. eyes, muscle sinews, joints, and bones). Insufficient blood causes mental/ emotional anxieties, menstral irregularities, and low Qi (life force). Qi is the commander of blood. Blood forms breastmilk (white blood), menstral blood, and body fluids. Any leftover blood is transformed into essence. Blood deficiency looks like Qi deficiency: pale, cold, maybe slight yellowing. It is indicated by a thin pulse and tongue. Build your blood with this easy to make and delicious Blood Building Syrup:
4Tbs. Yellow Dock- cooling root, high in bioavailable iron
2Tbs. Fennel- make syrup more digestible
4Tbs. Chen pi- aged tangerine peel (can substitute with orange peel) warms, moves digestive energy
2Tbs. Nettles- nourishing, mineral rich herb
2cups Black Strap Molasses- add at the end!
- Put herbs into a quart mason jar and then fill to top with boiling water. Cover and let sit for 6-12 hours.
- Make a decoction: reduce the infusion over low heat until it is reduced by half.
- Once cooled, strain herbs from liquid through a cheese cloth. Add the molasses to the liquid.
- Per cup of syrup add 1Tbs. of brandy or vodka to preserve.
- Label and keep in the refrigerator. Will keep for 1-2 years.
Take 1 tsp/ 2x/ day for more energy and a well nourished Qi and blood balance.
caution: do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Great post, so informative. I really appreciate the info on TCM. Thanks!
Glad you liked it! I enjoy your blog BTW 🙂
Thanks!!
Are you using Fennel seeds? Or is it the leaves? Thank you. I’d love to try this recipe!
Hi Daisy, I am so sorry about this incredibly late reply (I’ve gravely neglected this blog). Anyway, to answer your question, I use fennel seeds; they are warming carminitives and help move and harmonize this syrup! Thanks!
